Template - Authoritative Content Strategy

From FAQ-Off, the Calibre9 knowledge base

Table of

Contents—

Summary—

We have created an Authoritative Content Strategy for Ghanda that will increase site authority and page rank site wide by increasing trust with Google and by delivering content tailored to real user search intent.

We will build Pillar Pages and subtopic pages that are interlinked together to create a Topic Cluster that will build authority around that topic.

Goal—



The goal is to build Site Authority. In Google’s eyes, Site Authority is when they see a website as a trusted source on a topic. Google will use excerpts and other information from trusted sites to answer user search queries.

Site Authority is a major ranking factor for a site and can greatly increase page rankings site wide.

We have built an authoritative strategy, generated a content plan, and provided writing guidelines that will all work to achieve an increase in the site’s authority.

A factor Google Considers when looking at Site authority is the author, they look at factors such as:

  • Is the author an expert or someone knowledgeable on the topic
  • Have they created content around that topic before
  • Do other sites or sources cite the author's name or link to them
  • How long have they been on working on a topic

First Step —

This will be the centre of the content strategy. The idea behind the Pillar Page is essentially to create a large blog page that encapsulates the entirety of a targeted topic.

The Pillar Page will broadly cover the topic as a whole by addressing frequently asked questions/searches and other relevant information, which will then have links to more detailed information about the specific subtopic/question being covered.

The page will be structured with a table of contents at the top that allows users to jump to the relevant information that they are seeking on the page, and subheadings that indicate different subtopics.

Interlinking will be performed within these subtopics to direct users to more in-depth information on the topic, as well as direct authority to where it needs to go.

Additional pages will then be created to answer the questions in more depth. These pages will have more specific subtopics or general blog content that is relevant to the Pillar Page topic.

For example, if ‘movies’ is the topic for your Pillar Page, ‘romance movies’ or ‘comedy movies’ would be subtopics that you could go into more depth about in separate blog articles.

Additional pages will then be created, these will be more specific subtopics or general blog content that is relevant to the Pillar Page topic, this is known as topic cluster.

We need to ensure that the user and search engines can correctly navigate the site. We will look at how the current blog content is structured and make adjustments depending on URL structure and navigation.

For example, if /blog/movies/ is the Pillar Page,

then /blog/movies/romance/ and /movies-to-watch-in-2022/ are subtopic or general blog pages, respectively.

Second Step—

Content will be created for the Pillar Page and Sub-Topic page. This will be done with a SEO focus by using the provided set of guidelines for the content and structure, to ensure that it is seen as authoritative. You can find the link to these guidelines at the bottom of this document.

After the content has been created and the Pillar Page and sub-topic pages are ready to be published, we will audit the pages and interlink anchor text to ensure that all pages pass authority correctly.

Content Map—

Ghanda currently has no exciting blog/news content

Which means we can plan out an optimal content and URL structure from the start.

Will start by building out a more specific pillar page and supporting sub-topic pages and then work to build a more broad pillar pages.

This page will work to cluster all the existing content together to give the users and crawlers the best chance at navigating to relevant, authoritative information.

The selected initial pillar page will be built around

‘Y2K 2000’s Fashion’ We have created a list of potential titles that can be used for this topic.

  • Everything you need to know about Y2K 2000’s Fashion
  • Guide to Y2K Fashion
  • Ghanda’s guide to Y2K Aesthetic

We will select more topics to build Pillar Pages around as we move forward, but for now we will move to add more subtopic pages that can be linked to.





Third Step—

URL Structure

Ghanda currently hasn’t got a URL structure in place. So we recommend following a standard Hard URL structure

Eg. https://ghanda.com/blog/y2kfashion

Page Audit & Interlinking

After the content has been created and the Pillar Page and sub-topic pages are ready to be published, we will audit the pages and interlink anchor text to ensure that all pages pass authority correctly.

Recommendations—

We suggest that you:

  • Build the ‘Pillar Page that answers the question listed above

  • Adjust URL structure of sub-topic pages to contain //

  • Begin creating sub-topic pages

We will then move to interlink and adjust content according to our topic cluster model
