Sparque - Guide to Writing Category Content

From FAQ-Off, the Calibre9 knowledge base

Creating Category Content—

—Place helpful content at the top of the page.

Try and create an intro copy that is full of helpful information about the range of products within the category page. It should contain info that will help the visitor with making a purchase decision and be relevant to the category.

—Ensure the category title is the one and only H1 of the page.

—Provide FAQ type content to help visitors make a purchasing decision

Look to answer questions that a visitor might have about the products on the category page. This should be at the bottom of the page below the list of products.

—Keep the content concise and relevant

Google won’t likely rank your category page if it is just links to products and no content, but at the same time if the category page is exceedingly content heavy Google may struggle to identify what the purpose of the page is.

—Avoid adding too much content about specific products

Too much product specific content will create competition between the category page and product page.

—Do not reuse content from other pages

Do not plagiarise content from other sites or pages within your own website, such as product pages. Content will need to be unique to each page to see the SEO benefit

Summary—

  • Add concise helpful content above the products
  • Add FAQ style content below the content
  • Keep it relevant and useful to the visitor
  • Focus on helping the visitor rather than focusing on the search engine.
