Christmas Content Guidelines

Our tips for increasing business this holiday season

  • Start early: you should be making new Christmas content in August (to ensure enough lead time for writing, approval and implementation).
  • Start by updating old seasonal content to be current for the new season.
  • Don’t alter existing non-seasonal pages, this tends to hurt their search ranking.
  • Create new product categories or service pages themed around the season.
  • Make sure to link your Christmas pages in your site header.

  • Remember that people are more emotional during the holiday season and respond better to inspirational and heartwarming products and ideas.
  • Sell them a feeling, not a list of features.
  • If you can, emphasise that you are a small, local business.
  • Recent years have seen a trend towards more supportive and conscientious buying, especially around Christmas.
  • Consider sweetening the deal with Christmas deals and discounts or free shipping.
  • Customers respond well to shows of “Christmas spirit”.
  • Post new pages and blogs to your social media. Remind your most loyal customers to think of you this Christmas, and diversify your online presence.
  • Email customers about new Christmas deals and services.
  • Advertise Christmas offerings in-store.
